Trenchless Sewer Repair in Columbus, OH

Your sewer lateral likely runs under a front walk, a tree or the driveway. Trenchless repair fixes it from the inside through one or two small access points. We serve Columbus homeowners from our office on West Goodale Boulevard.

Know the Basics

What Is Trenchless Sewer Repair?

Trenchless sewer repair, also called no-dig sewer repair, fixes a damaged pipe without digging a trench along its full length. Instead of opening up your yard from the house to the street, we work through one or two access points and repair the pipe from the inside or replace it in place. There are two main methods: cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining and pipe bursting. Both fix the line underground, so what's above it stays untouched.

Local Knowledge

Why Trenchless Fits Columbus Homes

In Columbus, the homeowner is responsible for the lateral, and that includes restoring whatever gets dug up to reach it. On many older lots, that's a lot.

Brick Walks and Tight Lots

In German Village, Victorian Village and other older neighborhoods, laterals run under brick sidewalks, narrow side yards and garden beds. Working underground leaves them alone.

Mature Trees in Clintonville and Upper Arlington

Big old trees and old clay laterals tend to share the same ground. A trench cuts through the roots you want to keep. Lining doesn't.

Clay Laterals Are Good Candidates

Root-cracked joints, minor offsets and aging clay are what lining handles best. A liner seals every joint at once, so roots have nowhere to get back in.

Fewer Holes, Fewer Utility Conflicts

Any digging starts with a call to OUPS (Ohio811) to mark buried gas, electric and water lines. Trenchless keeps the digging to one or two small pits.

Common Scenarios

When Does Trenchless Apply?

Backups, slow drains, sewer odor, soft or unusually lush patches of grass, and gurgling drains are the most common signs of a damaged sewer line. Which repair method fits comes down to the type and extent of the damage.

SituationTrenchless Usually WorksNeeds Traditional Excavation
Root intrusion cracking the pipeYesNot typically
Corroded or aging clay, cast iron, or Orangeburg pipeYesNot typically
Minor cracks or offset jointsYesNot typically
Slow drains or backups traced to pipe damageUsually, after a camera inspection confirms itNot typically
Fully collapsed section of pipeNot typicallyYes
Severe belly (a low spot where the pipe has sunk)Not typicallyYes
Major structural misalignmentNot typicallyYes

Not sure which category applies to your line? A camera inspection shows exactly what's happening underground before any repair method gets recommended.

The Two Methods

How Trenchless Sewer Repair Works in Columbus

Both methods replace a trench. The camera decides which one fits your lateral.

Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) Lining

We clean the line, pull a resin-coated liner through it and cure it in place, creating a seamless new pipe inside the old one. Our trucks use light-cured lining, which cures faster than older steam or water methods.

Pipe Bursting

When the old pipe is too broken to line, we pull a new pipe through it while breaking the old one apart around it. The lateral is replaced without a trench.

Footage Before and After

We record the line before we recommend a method and again when we're done, and you get a flat rate before any work starts.

"Updating to also call out Emanuel and Gio, who worked on lining our 110 year old sewer for the past two days. They were flexible, friendly, and professional. No one wants to deal with plumbing issues so we’re thanking for the people who do! 5 stars for Shane Waychoff! He rescued us from a small sewage issue in our basement. [...]"

Trenchless Sewer Repair Questions From Columbus Homeowners

Usually. We work through small access points planned around walks, trees and beds.

Usually, yes. We place one or two small access points after looking at your walks, driveway, trees and landscaping, and the liner goes in from there. If a section has collapsed, it may need a small spot dig, and we'll tell you before we start.

Usually. Cracked or root-damaged clay is a good candidate once it's cleaned.

Usually. Clay with root intrusion, cracks or minor offsets is a good candidate. We clean the line first, often with hydro jetting, so the liner seats properly. A severe sag or a collapsed section may need a different approach.

It depends on length, method and access. You get a flat price first.

It depends on how much of the lateral needs work, whether we line it or burst it, how many access points we need and what the camera finds. Skipping the trench also means less restoration afterward. You get a flat-rate price before any work begins.

Sometimes. Older lines can have more than one weak point. The camera shows which applies.

Sometimes. Older lines often have more than one weak point, so fixing the obvious problem doesn't always mean the whole line is covered. Only a camera inspection tells you which one applies to your home, before any repair method gets recommended.
