The Basics

What an Ejector Pump Does

Fixtures below the sewer line, like a basement bathroom or laundry, drain into a sealed basin. The ejector pump lifts that wastewater into the main line. A float starts it and a check valve stops water from falling back. If one part fails, those fixtures back up.

Diagnose First

Is It the Pump or the System?

When basement fixtures back up, the pump gets the blame, but it's not always the pump. A stuck float keeps a good pump from starting. A failed check valve lets water fall back so the pump runs nonstop. A clogged vent makes the basin gurgle and smell. Wipes wrapped around the impeller can stall it. We open the basin, test each part and replace only what failed. If the pump is old and worn, we'll tell you that too.
