Drain Cleaning
Slow, gurgling or backed-up drains in kitchens, bathrooms and basements.
A basement bathroom, laundry or bar sink below the sewer line needs an ejector pump to lift wastewater up and out. When it fails, sewage backs up into the basement. We repair and replace ejector pumps across Columbus from our office on West Goodale Boulevard, 24/7.

Gravity carries most of your home's wastewater to the sewer. A basement bathroom, laundry or bar sink often sits too low for that, so its drains run into a sealed basin in the floor instead. When the basin fills to a set level, a float switches on the ejector pump, and it pushes the wastewater up and into the main sewer line. It looks a lot like a sump pump, but a sump pump moves groundwater. An ejector pump moves sewage.
Catch these before the basin overflows:
Stop using every basement fixture and call. The pump isn't keeping up.
A sealed basin shouldn't smell. Odor means a bad seal, a vent problem or a basin that isn't emptying.
If the basement toilet or shower backs up while upstairs drains are fine, start with the pump.
A pump that grinds or never shuts off is fighting a stuck float, a failed check valve or a worn motor.
Columbus has a lot of basements, and plenty of them have been finished over the years with bathrooms, laundry rooms and bars.
In older homes, basement bathrooms and laundries were often added decades after the house was built. If yours came with a remodel, the pump may be 15 years old or more and may never have been serviced.
An overhead sewer system sends every basement drain to an ejector pit. In combined sewer neighborhoods, that pump is what keeps storm backups out.
Wipes, paper towels and grease. They wrap the impeller and burn out the motor. Toilet paper and wastewater only.
An ejector pump failure is a sewage problem, so we treat it like one.
Stop using basement fixtures and call. Nights, weekends and holidays included.
A stuck float or failed check valve is a repair. A burned-out motor on an older pump is usually a replacement.

"Greg did an outstanding job replacing our sump pumps. Always professional and courteous. Well done😃"
"Worked with Greg and Josh to do an emergency replacement of my ejector pit and they were very kind to make sure my cats didn't get out of the apartment while they worked. I actually do say this as someone who has called J Blanton a few times, but they're the plumbers I call to fix other plumbers' mistakes."
No. A sump pump moves groundwater. An ejector pump moves wastewater from basement fixtures.
No. They look alike, but a sump pump moves groundwater out of the basement, and an ejector pump lifts wastewater from basement fixtures up to the sewer line. They aren't interchangeable.
Often 7 to 10 years or more. Older or noisy pumps are worth checking.
Many last somewhere between 7 and 10 years or more, depending on how much they run and what goes down the basement drains. If yours is older, louder or running more than it used to, have it checked before it fails.
Stop using basement fixtures, leave the basin sealed and call us.
Stop using everything that drains to the basin: basement toilet, shower, sink and washer. Don't open the sealed lid. Then call us, any hour. We'll find out why the pump isn't keeping up.
It depends on the pump, basin and access. You get a flat price first.
It depends on the pump, the basin, the check valve and venting and how easy the basin is to reach. We give you a flat-rate price before any work begins.
