Water Heaters
Repair and replacement for tank and tankless water heaters that leak, make noise or run out of hot water too fast.
A historic fireplace converted to gas logs, a builder unit in a newer home or a fireplace that won't light on the first cold night. Our plumbers are licensed for gas work and repair, clean and service gas fireplaces across Geneva. From our office on Campbell Street.

Geneva homeowners usually call us about one of these in October and November:
In a converted masonry fireplace, the pilot sits low in the firebox and collects ash, dust and debris. A careful cleaning usually solves it.
Cold air pouring out of a fireplace with gas logs often means the damper clamp is missing or set wrong. That's a safety issue as well as a comfort one.
Dark marks on the brick or mantel mean the flue isn't drawing well or the flame is burning dirty.
The safety system is shutting the gas off. A weak thermopile or a vent problem is the usual cause.
Get outside first, then call Nicor Gas or 911. We'll handle the repair once it's safe.
We handle the gas side and tell you when the chimney needs a specialist:
We test the pilot, the thermopile output, the valve and the controls and replace only what failed.
Burner, pilot and glass cleaned, logs placed the way the manufacturer intended, every fitting leak-tested and the damper clamp or vent checked.
New gas logs or an insert for a fireplace you no longer want to burn wood in, with the gas supply run and tested. See gas line installation.
In the Central Geneva Historic District, most houses were built between 1840 and 1900. Many of their fireplaces were built for wood or coal and have been converted since. In newer subdivisions on the west side, many homes built after 1990 came with a sealed gas unit.
Gas logs in a masonry fireplace need the damper held partly open at all times so exhaust can escape. If the clamp was removed during a renovation, it needs to go back on.
Some 19th-century fireplaces are shallow or were built for coal. Not every gas log set fits safely. We'll tell you what works in yours.
Direct-vent fireplaces in newer homes are sealed from the room and vent through the wall. Their parts are widely available, so repairs are usually straightforward.
Any gas fireplace can produce carbon monoxide if it burns or vents poorly. Keep a working detector on every floor.
Tested before we leave.
Gas work should be done by a licensed pro, and ours are trained for it.
Before any work.
Leak-checked and run until the flame is steady.

"Communication, information and installation went great. Price was very competitive. Shane explained everything extremely well and Alex installed hot water tank beautifully. Shortly after Alex left a gas leak from an old valve on the piping to the tank occurred and needed to be replaced, Alex came back same night and fixed it. This is a 5-Star company."
"We had a new gas pipe installed that ws located to sevice our dryer in the basement on July 14th. The Technician was friendly and did a great job with the installation. He cleaned up after himself, and the pricing was competative."
"Andrew and Ty did a great job fixing and replacing some old natural gas pipe that had a recurring leak. Punctual, efficient, kept me informed, cleaned up well after. I highly recommend."
Yes. Gas logs in a masonry fireplace need a fixed damper opening.
Yes. Vented gas logs need the damper held partly open so combustion gases can leave through the chimney. A damper clamp keeps it from being closed by accident.
Often, if the chimney is sound and the firebox is suitable.
Often. The chimney has to be in good condition and drawing well, and the firebox has to suit the log set. We handle the gas line and valve and point you to a chimney specialist if the flue needs work.
Poor draft or a dirty flame.
Marks above the opening usually mean the flue isn't drawing well or the gas isn't burning cleanly. Cleaning and adjusting the logs often fixes the flame. A draft problem may need a chimney inspection.
Early fall, before the heating season.
September or early October, so any weak part is found on a mild day instead of the first cold night.
It depends on the part and the fireplace. You'll approve a flat price first.
It depends on what failed and the type of fireplace. Once we've found the problem, you'll approve a flat-rate price before we replace anything.
