Drain Cleaning
Slow, gurgling or backed-up drains in kitchens, bathrooms and basements.
Roots in a clay line under a Victorian on the east side, a sag in a newer west side subdivision or a backup that returns every few months. We inspect the line on camera, show you the damage and give you one flat price before we dig, line or replace anything. Our office is on North McLean Boulevard.

A clog is cleared once. A damaged line keeps sending signals:
If the main line was cleared and it backs up again within a few months, roots or a break are catching everything that comes down the pipe.
A basement floor drain or a basement shower that fills when upstairs fixtures run means the line can't carry the flow.
A depression or a wet stripe running from the house toward the street often follows the sewer path.
Cracked pipe or an open joint lets gas escape into the soil and sometimes into the basement.
Elgin's housing covers more than 150 years. About 1 in 5 homes was built before 1940, and nearly 3 in 10 went up between 1990 and 2009. The two groups fail for different reasons.
The Elgin Historic District alone has nearly 700 buildings, many from the 1800s. Homes that old usually drain through clay laterals laid in short sections, and every joint is an opening for roots.
Streets near downtown and along the river have tall, old trees. Their roots follow moisture to the sewer and grow into any joint that isn't sealed.
Over a century, many east side lines have been repaired in pieces. A mix of clay, cast iron and newer pipe means more transitions where things catch and leak.
Newer homes on the far west side usually have PVC sewer lines. Roots are less of a problem, but sections can sag where soil settled after construction.
Every sewer repair from our North McLean Boulevard office follows the same order.
A camera run from the cleanout to the city main, recorded, with the distance to every problem on screen.
One bad section gets a spot repair. A failing line gets lining or replacement. You see the footage behind it.
You get a flat-rate price before any work starts.

Once we know what's wrong, there's usually more than one way to fix it. Which method makes sense depends on the pipe's condition, location, and how it failed.
| Method | What It Involves | Typical Disruption |
|---|---|---|
| Trenchless Pipe Lining | A resin-coated liner is pulled through the existing pipe and cured in place, creating a new pipe inside the old one. | Minimal digging, usually just small access points |
| Trenchless Pipe Bursting | A new pipe is pulled through the old one while a bursting head fractures the old pipe outward to make room. | Minimal digging, works even when the old pipe is badly damaged |
| Traditional Excavation (Spot Repair) | The damaged section is dug up and replaced directly. | More digging, but sometimes the only option depending on damage location and access |
Elgin lots near downtown are often narrow, with old trees, retaining walls or a detached garage over the sewer path. The camera tells us which method fits before we talk about digging.
4.8 stars from 349 Google reviews for our Elgin office.
"Was a major bit of sewer repair, but could not have been more pleased with the professionalism and congeniality of Richard and his team. They explained every step of the process as it was being done, and were more than happy to answer questions."
"We had a good experience with Mike. He inspected our sewer line and showed us the camera footage and clearly explained the sewer relining repair we needed. Mike was knowledgeable and helpful. All in all a good experience."
"Updating to also call out Emanuel and Gio, who worked on lining our 110 year old sewer for the past two days. They were flexible, friendly, and professional. No one wants to deal with plumbing issues so we’re thanking for the people who do! 5 stars for Shane Waychoff! He rescued us from a small sewage issue in our basement. [...]"
Likely clay, possibly patched. A camera inspection shows its real condition.
Most homes that old drain through clay pipe, often with sections that were repaired or replaced over the years. Some clay lines are still in fair shape. A camera inspection shows which kind you have before you spend anything on repairs.
The line from your house to the main is usually yours.
In Elgin, the private sewer line from your home to the public main is generally the homeowner's to maintain. If the camera shows the problem is at or past the main, we'll tell you.
Often not. Trenchless methods work through small openings.
Often not. Trenchless sewer repair relines or replaces the pipe through one or two small access points. A collapsed section or deep sag may still need a spot dig.
Clearing helps for a while. Sealing the joints stops them.
Clearing removes roots for a time, but they grow back to the same joints. Lining the pipe or replacing the damaged section seals those joints, which is what ends the cycle.
It depends on the damage and the method. You get a flat price first.
It depends on what the camera shows: the type of damage, the depth and length of the bad section, the method and what sits above the line. We give you a flat-rate price before any work begins.
