What a Catch Basin Does
A catch basin is a small chamber under a grate that collects runoff from the yard, the driveway or the downspouts and sends it into a drain line. The bottom of the chamber sits lower than the outlet pipe, so leaves and silt can settle out first. Once that space fills, the debris flows into the outlet, the line clogs and the water has nowhere to go but across the surface.
